Cube Runner

This is a Game I made for a GameJam with the theme "Jump".

This is a journey of a CUBE in the space that is trying to prove that the CUBE is the better form. It is a solo journey against the other forms who are trying to defeat the CUBE.

Your feedback is always welcome.

I hope you enjoy the game.

How to Play

  • SPACE: To Jump
  • R: To retry the level
  • P: Pause/Unpause the game
  • H: Active/Deactive Hack to unlock all the levels (try without this)

Process

I tried to use some light and volume processing to create a good atmosphere using the URP, but I don't have much experience with that.

First time doing a whole menu with the game over screen, selectable levels, etc.

Also first game I'm finishing, and it was made after less than 2 weeks of studying Unity.

Day 1:

  • Create the base idea
  • Create movement
  • Create the first 1 enemy (Triangle) and make it easy to create more enemies
  • Create the initial menu and the resources for the level data
  • Create the code to generate the scenario based on the resources dynamically based on the camera, only what the player sees exists
  • Create the art for most of the elements
  • Create the particles around the portal (it's not easy to see but I'm happy with the result)
  • Use the URP to refine the game

Day 2:

  • Add sound
  • Refine the playability (jump, movement, ground detection, coyote time)
  • Create Iteractable Itens and the case score system
  • Create the HUD
  • Refine Menu and color pallet
  • Test Embeddable Game here in more screen sizes
  • Create 6 levels to teach the player about the scenarios and playability

Day 3:

  • Create a new Enemy (Hexagon Twin)
  • Create a new level (7) and fix some others (5-6)
  • Add Trail to the Player
  • Fixe a bug that allows the player to jump on the beginning of the level befoer touch the floor
  • Create a new Enemy (Circle)
  • Add more levels using the Cirle
  • Create a Game Win UI with detah count
  • Lock the levels to only be accessible when pass the prevous one (or use the (H)ack)

Credits

I did all this by myself this time to consolidate what I learned, but I will for sure try to create something in a team next time.
